Cameroon is located in Central Africa on the Atlantic and is home to all of the continent's main climate zones: sea coast, mountains, rainforest, savannah and desert. Therefore it can be called "Africa in miniature". The volcanically active Mount Cameroon near the coast is the highest mountain in West Africa at 4095m. Cameroon stretches north to Lake Chad. As in all tropical landscapes on earth, the bird life of Cameroon is extremely diverse. BirdLife International has recognized 33 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). Cameroon also shares 2 EBAs (Endemic Bird Areas) with its neighboring countries. In these there are numerous bird species with relatively small distribution areas. Some species are even restricted to Cameroon itself worldwide; these all live in the vicinity of Mount Cameroon. Cameroon strives to protect its natural treasures with the establishment of national parks, some of which are already World Heritage Sites or are on the Proposal List. Unfortunately, the country is difficult to travel to and tourism plays only a minor economic role. This multilingual (en, fr, es, de, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Cameroon in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 160 bird species and to audios of more than 45 spedies are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
